BMS Achieves Prestigious National Nurturing Schools Award

We are delighted to announce that on 16 October 2024, Barton Manor School achieved the prestigious National Nurturing Schools Award from Nurture UK. This accolade reflects our unwavering commitment to providing a nurturing environment that caters to the diverse needs of our pupils. A detailed report can be downloaded, and we encourage all members of our community to read it. Below, we highlight some of the key observations from our assessor.

The assessor noted that at Barton Manor School, nurture is not merely an aspect of our approach; it is integral to the very heart of our ethos. There was an overwhelming sense of care that permeated the discussions held with parents. They articulated their appreciation for the profound knowledge that our staff possess regarding their children's individual needs. It was particularly heartening to hear parents commend our level of care and commitment. This sentiment exemplifies our School's dedication to ensuring that every learner feels valued and supported.

Our determination to achieve the best outcomes for all learners is deeply embedded in our School's culture. This commitment is bolstered by excellent and robust systems, routines, and structures that we have implemented. These elements serve to create an environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. We firmly believe that promoting opportunities for all learners is not merely a goal, but a responsibility that we embrace wholeheartedly.

Our achieving the National Nurturing Schools Award is a testament to the ethos of inclusion that runs through our institution. As one of our school leaders poignantly remarked: “Inclusion is the golden thread through everything – it’s at the heart of what we do and sets us apart.” Such reflections encapsulate our ideals and guide our daily practices. Parents, too, have shared their experiences, with one conveying the impact our nurturing approach has had on their family: “They changed her life, and mine.” Such testimonials reaffirm our ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. In addition, our students expressed their recognition of our nurturing ethos, stating: “They make sure everyone is included and safe.”

In line with our focus on continuous improvement, we are excited to share that we have re-visited two fundamental principles in Terms 1 and 2: the importance of transition and the understanding that all behaviour is communication. These principles serve as a foundation for our nurturing practices, enabling us to respond to the needs of our students effectively. Our ongoing work with Nurture UK is integral to our development, and we anticipate that this partnership will further enhance our approach to nurturing education.

Moreover, to reinforce our commitment to supporting our students holistically, we have introduced a range of additional nurture provisions this academic year. These initiatives are designed to provide targeted support tailored to the individual needs of our students, ensuring that they have the resources and guidance necessary for their personal and academic growth.

In conclusion, achieving the National Nurturing Schools Award is a significant milestone for Barton Manor School. It reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff, the trust of our parents, and the resilience of our students. Together, we will continue to foster an environment rooted in care, inclusion, and opportunity for all. We look forward to building upon this foundation and nurturing the future of every learner in our school community.
