The first ever BMS Science Reading Week took place this week, where Year 7 and Year 8 students explored captivating scientific topics, promoting literacy within Science lessons. Year 7 students immersed themselves in a fascinating book about the world of microbes, gaining insight into the unseen organisms that shape our world. Meanwhile, Year 8 students delved into a variety of scientific journals, including ones on cutting-edge advancements such as robotic limbs and the exciting concept of de-extinction.
This reading week not only promoted literacy within Science lessons, but also allowed students to expand their knowledge beyond the curriculum. By engaging with complex and real-world scientific concepts, students were able to further develop critical thinking and curiosity, fostering a deeper appreciation for the subject.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the week, appreciating the variety of materials and topics they were able to explore. Many commented on how refreshing it was to engage with subjects beyond their regular Science lessons, sparking new interests and encouraging them to think critically about real-world scientific issues.
