BMS Celebrate Fashion Week 2024
Posted on: 04/10/2024BMS Fashion Week 30 September - 4 October 2024 saw the Design and Technology Department encourage students to consider careers in the fashion industry.
On Monday, a fashion design competition was launched with the theme of 'London' which saw some very creative and beautifully designed ideas submitted. This was won by Amelie in Year 8 who submitted not just one, but three outstanding entries.
On Tuesday, students were able to attend a fashion drawing workshop where they learned how to use templates to enhance their ideas.
On the Thursday, students were given the opportunity to customise their own clothes.
The highlight of the week, however, was having the University of the Creative Arts (UCA) in on the Friday - as part of Cultural Capital Day 1 - to run a range of Fashion and Textiles Workshops. Students learned how to drape fabric to design outfits, how to present ideas for fashions of the future and how to print their own tote bags.
There was an additional workshop in collaboration with the D&T and Art Departments where students worked in teams to create incredible thinking hats. The winning hats were showcased and trophies awarded before UCA delivered an inspiring talk on creative careers from Fashion to Photography to Architecture. Students were then given further information to take with them and a souvenir pencil. Barton Manor School will continue to work with UCA to deliver future workshops, talks and campus visits.
